Joan Patricia Whitbread was born in Hobart on the 8th October 1929

to mother Una and father Harold

In 1932 her brother Don was born

​

Joan and Don lost their father at a young age

​

She grew up in West Hobart

Worked at Department of Education, Myer and Rundles The Jewellers

​

In 1957 Joan married Doug, built a home at Midway Point in 1960, built a home at Howrah in 1963, had two children, Scott and Karen, and have three grandchildren Sam, Georgia and Stevie.

Being with her family was what Joan enjoyed most of all. Although times were tough and money hard to come by, she provided a safe, caring and happy family environment, both in the home and local neighborhood for her children to grow.

After Doug retired,  Joan and Doug traveled Australia in their caravan before making Port Macquarie their home base in 1988, then continued with their adventures
 

The most important priorities in her life were Family, Friends and Gardening.

Like all of us, she had some challenging days, however had the strength continue fighting to the very end.

She was loved by many, and we will never forget her.
